This informal support group for breastfeeding families provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from the Women and Infants unit. Because of room occupancy restraints, we are limited to a maximum of 7 moms with babies in arms. We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms, moms-to-be and family members who want to connect with others for support. Registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome. Please call 505-4140 for more information or to register.

 

This group will be held in the Teleconference Room, located on the ground floor of Waldo County General Hospital. Please park at the back of the building and enter through the Ludwig Building entrance.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18. 

The course will teach you how to  apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):

• Assess for risk of suicide or harm.

• Listen nonjudgmentally.

• Give reassurance and information.

• Encourage appropriate professional help.

• Encourage self-help and other support strategies.

This course is for adults who work with youth, including teachers, school staff, coaches, camp counselors, youth group leaders, and parents. It will be located at the Pen Bay Physician's Building at 4 Glen Cove Drive, downstairs in Conference Room C. Participants should pack lunch. All participants will receive a certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Infant Care Basics

In this 3 hour virtual course, we talk about how to care for your newborn when you bring them home, what to expect during the first few months, and how to be well prepared. Topics include:

  • Laying a strong sleep foundation
  • Bottle and formula feeding (separate breastfeeding class)
  • Diapering & Digestion
  • Soothing techniques
  • Safety Guidelines
  • Common ailments
  • Postpartum Coping and Preparation

We recommend taking this between 30-35 weeks if possible. Only one parent needs to register, but all can attend. Please join us to build your confidence in caring for your newborn!

Walk with a Doc is a FREE walking program for anyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a current health topic from a healthcare professional, then spend the rest of the session enjoying a healthy walk and fun conversation. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. Walk your own pace and distance.

MUTUAL SUPPORT FROM OTHERS

This group is open to anyone trying to quit tobacco, thinking about quitting, struggling to maintain quit or wanting support during any phase of tobacco use or quit process. We also welcome successful quitters who would like to support others in the quit process or could benefit from accountability to help maintain their quit.

We offer weekly health tips and encourage participants to share their challenges and successes to support each other in working toward goals. This is a great opportunity to talk with others in similar situations and share ideas.
