Breastfeeding for Beginners

Join us for a 3 hour virtual session loaded with all the info you will need to get breastfeeding off to a great start!
Topics will include:
- What to do to prepare during your pregnancy
- How to get a good latch
- How to establish a strong milk supply
- How to navigate bumps in the road
- How to introduce pumping and bottlefeeding
- Postpartum resources available
- So much more!
Partners are encouraged to be present as well but do not need to be registered. We recommend taking this between 30-35 weeks if possible. Join us to feel empowered about starting your feeding journey!

Breastfeeding Basics 2024
with Certified Educator, MMC Childbirth Education
This class meets online. If you are registered for this class, you will recieve an email about 2 days before the class starts with a link to join.
This class covers the benefits of breastfeeding, different breastfeeding techniques and positions, how to make enough milk, and local community and professional resources. Attending this class before your baby’s birth will help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Partners are highly encouraged to register and attend.
We recommend attending this class between the 32nd and 36th week of pregnancy.
Gentle Birth - Virtual
with Dawn Tassi, Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital Events
Enjoy a new approach to child birth class combining brain science, birth science and technology to empower your positive birth through preparation. This class takes place over a series of three Tuesdays and will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. A mobile app will also be able available if desired to enhance the learning experience.

Celebrating Birth ~ Childbirth Preparation
with Rachel Murer, SMHC Birthing Suite
Being prepared for childbirth can ease your mind and make your birth experience what you hope it will be. This class will give you the information, resources and skills to prepare you for the birth of your baby.
This class will cover:
- Preparation during last month of pregnancy
- Early labor at home
- What to expect coming to the hospital from admission to discharge
- Stages of labor
- Pain management options
- Optional tour of the Birthing Suite
Expecting mother/couple should be in their last trimester. Class fee is per couple. When checking out, please don't add your support person as an additional attendee, only enter their name when asked.

Perinatal Support Group
with Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital Events
We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms, moms-to-be and family members who want to connect with others for support. Registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome. Please call 505-4140 for more information or to register.
This group will be held in the Teleconference Room, located on the ground floor of Waldo County General Hospital. Please park at the back of the building and enter through the Ludwig Building entrance.
Childbirth Education Classes
with Candace Crocker, BSN, RN, LincolnHealth Childbirth Education
Childbirth Education Classes cover pregnancy, labor and delivery, newborn care and breastfeeding. Our classes use videos, stories, photos and animations, activities and games as well as demonstrations to teach all the essential information parents need to prepare for the birth of their baby. Class sizes are limited to provide individualized attention.
It is recommended that expecting mothers finish this series around 3-6 weeks before their due date. This class is for Women's Center patients and their support person(s). It is a two-class series so please plan to attend both classes for optimal learning.
Big Brother/Big Sister Class
with Kayla Day, SMHC Birthing Suite
Big Brothers or Big Sisters can have an opportunity for special time with Mom and/or Dad before their new baby sibling arrives. This class includes:
- Diapering activity with their own special doll/stuffed animal you bring from home
- Story time about being a new big sibling
- Coloring activity
- "Field trip" to the Birthing Suite to see where Mom will be once the new baby arrives!
This class will last approximately ONE hour. Recommended for Children ages 3 to 7. Mom should be in her last trimester. Class FEE is per family. When checking out, please do not add your children as attendees.
Expecting Multiples 2024
with Certified Educator, MMC Childbirth Education
Registration includes a support person.
Couples expecting more than one baby will receive information specific to multiple pregnancy, birth, and parenting. Early participation in this class is advised (before 30 weeks gestation). If this is your first pregnancy, participation in one of our childbirth education classes is also strongly encouraged.
We recommend attending this class between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy.
