Our classes reflect Lincoln Hospital's dedication to our philosophy of family-centered care.  Classes are taught by an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant from the family birth center who will bring her knowledge and experience to her teaching.  We will review how milk is made, why breastfeeding is so important, feeding cues and positions and so much more.  We use short videos and discussion to ensure you and your baby are off to a great start!  Also covered is prenatal colostrum harvesting as well as hand expression, pumping and storage of breastmilk.  The class is informal and allows for open discussion.  Please call the Lincoln Hospital Family Birth Center for questions at:  207.563.4536

Enjoy a new approach to child birth class combining brain science, birth science and technology to empower your positive birth through preparation. This class takes place over a series of three Tuesdays and will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. A mobile app will also be able available if desired to enhance the learning experience.

A Matter of Balance- Virtual Classes

Many older adults worry about falling.  People who develop this concern often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater.  A Matter of Balance is a program designed for adults age 60 and older to increase activity levels and reduce the fear of falling. If you are concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past, or are interested in improving your flexibility, balance and strength, this class is for you! 

Classes start monthly! Join a group of 8 to 12 people online through Zoom for 9 sessions led by 2 trained coaches.  Support is available to help participants navigate Zoom with confidence.

Cesarean Birth Nurse Consult - Contact for Dates

This is a private class intended for patients who have a scheduled Cesarean. To schedule a class email: Lena.Strange@MaineHealth.org

This class is offered for Free if you have already taken the MMC Childbirth Education Class with this pregnancy. Registration fee covers the cost of registrant and one support person. A receipt will be issued which can be utilized to submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement is dependent upon individual plans, refer to your plan for additional information.  

If you cannot afford the registration fee due to financial hardship, please contact childbirth education at childbirtheducation@mainehealth.org .

Rescheduling or canceling your class registration can be done by contacting childbirtheducation@mainehealth.org. Refunds for class cancelations include a 10% processing fee. No refunds will be given after class begins.

You and your support person will meet with a Maine Medical Center Labor and Delivery RN for a 1 hour 15 minute discussion of what a Cesarean Birth may mean for you personally. This class offers more information on what your scheduled cesarean section will be like. Come learn why and how cesarean births are done, what medication is used, medical equipment that is involved, and the recovery process after your birth. You'll learn how Maine Medical Center does "family centered" births, making your experience as natural and comfortable as possible for you.

We recommend attending this class between the 28th and 32nd week of pregnancy.

We are offering this class online. After you are registered, shortly before the class starts you will receive an email with information as to how to participate in the class. Thank you for understanding.

Grieving Still

with MMC Childbirth Education

Remembering and loving babies lost during pregnancy. A support group for parents who have experienced a spontaneous pregnancy loss at any gestation. A place to remember, share, grieve, and heal. Third Thursday of every month; 6 - 7:30p.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our perinatal loss and bereavement support groups will meet virtually via Zoom. These support groups are a safe and supportive space to share your thoughts and emotions. To join, please email Kelly Chicoine at Kelly.Chicoine@mainehealth.org. She will send you the login information. Please email her by 3:00 pm on the day of the support group.

Pumping Milk at Work

This virtual session allows you to discuss how your feeding journey has gone so far and how you would like it to go moving forward. The topics include: 

  • Pump/flange education
  • Setting up a pumping schedule at work
  • Conversations to have with your childcare provider
  • Bottle feeding
  • Building up a milk stash
  • Maintaining a milk supply
  • Helpful products and resources
