Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth Education Classes cover pregnancy, labor and delivery, newborn care and breastfeeding. Our classes use videos, stories, photos and animations, activities and games as well as demonstrations to teach all the essential information parents need to prepare for the birth of their baby. Class sizes are limited to provide individualized attention.
It is recommended that expecting clients finish this series around 3-6 weeks before their due date. This class is for LH Miles OB/GYN patients and their support person(s). It is a three-class series so please plan to attend all classes for optimal learning. (Only the patient needs to sign up--partners/coaches need not sign up. Thank you)

Boot Camp for New Dads Resource

with Maine Boys to Men, MMC Childbirth Education
Boot Camp for New Dads is a half-day workshop offered for new or expectant dads and people who identify as fathers. You will explore societal messages we receive about the role of dads and how you and your partner can move beyond these messages to become a team in parenting your baby. You will also have an opportunity to ask veteran dads questions about fussy babies, diapering, etc.

Cesarean Birth Nurse Consult - Contact for Dates

This is a private class intended for patients who have a scheduled Cesarean. To schedule a class email: Kasey.Myles@MaineHealth.org
Registration fee covers the cost of registrant and one support person. A receipt will be issued which can be utilized to submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement is dependent upon individual plans, refer to your plan for additional information.
If you cannot afford the registration fee due to financial hardship, please contact childbirth education at childbirtheducation@mainehealth.org .
Rescheduling or canceling your class registration can be done by contacting childbirtheducation@mainehealth.org. Refunds for class cancelations include a 10% processing fee.
You and your support person will meet with a Maine Medical Center Labor and Delivery RN for a 1 hour 15 minute discussion of what a Cesarean Birth may mean for you personally. This class offers more information on what your scheduled cesarean section will be like. Come learn why and how cesarean births are done, what medication is used, medical equipment that is involved, and the recovery process after your birth. You'll learn how Maine Medical Center does "family centered" births, making your experience as natural and comfortable as possible for you.
We recommend attending this class between the 28th and 32nd week of pregnancy.
We are offering this class online. After you are registered, shortly before the class starts you will receive an email with information as to how to participate in the class. Thank you for understanding.
NICU 101 (2025)
Do you anticipate that your baby may be born early or with a medical condition which could result in a stay in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)? Please join us for a tour of the NICU and have the chance to talk with NICU nurses. You will learn about common medical issues and NICU equipment, how your baby will be cared for, what parents can do to care for their baby in the NICU and hospital policies. This class is offered in collaboration with our March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program.

Pumping Milk at Work
with Erin Kirkpatrick, Mid Coast Maternity
This virtual session allows you to discuss how your feeding journey has gone so far and how you would like it to go moving forward. The topics include:
- Pump/flange education
- Setting up a pumping schedule at work
- Conversations to have with your childcare provider
- Bottle feeding
- Building up a milk stash
- Maintaining a milk supply
- Helpful products and resources
